National Be Kind to Animals Week
(May 2-8, 2010
) is dedicated to raising awareness about treating animals with kindness and respect.

The APF again celebrated this special week with our 8th Annual Children's Essay and Poster contest. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach children about the importance of kindness and responsibility toward animals.

The contest is open to all students in 1st through 5th grade. This year’s theme is “Adopt Me!”

There are many wonderful animals at the APF that are looking for homes, you can help get the word out about them. Pick any animal that is up for adoption at the APF and either write an interesting story or design an informative poster that encourages the community to adopt the animal you choose. Be as creative and persuasive as you can.

You can find a list of adoptable animals on this website. Or stop by and meet the animals in person!

For dogs, click here.

For small animals, click here.

The winners, along with their families, teachers and principals, attended a wonderful awards reception at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady on Monday, May 3.

Thank you to all who entered, winners have been notified.

See you next year!
