How You Can Make a Difference

At the Animal Protective Foundation, volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Your time, energy, and love for animals help us provide the best possible care for our furry friends. By joining our volunteer program, you’ll make a direct impact on the lives of pets in need while being part of a compassionate community.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I become a volunteer?

The first step is to fill out our volunteer application. Once your application and application fee has been received, the volunteer coordinator will review the application and determine whether the applicant’s interests and availability match any current positions. If your application is considered, you will receive a link via email to sign up for a General Volunteer Orientation. Your application will remain active for four months if there are no current positions available.

The Volunteer Experience

Kids Can Help Too!

Although we require shelter volunteers to be at least 18 years old, there are lots of other things young people can do to help the animals on their own, with classmates, or with their scout troops. In fact, the majority of our supply donations come from kids who care about the animals.

Becoming a Foster

Why APF Fostering is Different:

  • The average time commitment is only two weeks!
  • That’s right, in as little as 14 days you can make an impact in a deserving pet’s life. Sometimes it only takes a weekend to help and sometimes it’s a month; either way, you will know before committing to a pet approximately how long they will be crashing on your couch!
  • You choose who you take home.
  • Foster families receive an email when there are animals in need of foster care. Each foster gets to decide when and who they care for in their home. This is ideal for animal lovers with busy schedules or that travel a lot – you can foster around your lifestyle!
  • The APF will provide all needed supplies to care for your foster pet.
  • Food, medications, veterinary treatment, litter boxes, bowls, and bedding are all provided by the shelter. Foster parents are encouraged to spoil their pets though, so you are welcome to buy all the toys, treats and even clothes you want!
